About the course

This course is a perfect starting point for wine enthusiasts wanting to get to grips with the basics, or those embarking on a career in wine or hospitality. In a short space of time, you’ll find yourself feeling much more confident navigating a wine list, buying wine and pairing wine with food.

By the end of the course you’ll be able to taste wine using our globally recognised ‘systematic approach to tasting’ and identify key styles of wine and characteristics of important grape varieties. You’ll also learn the key principles of food and wine pairing and how to apply these to your own food and wine choices.

The Level 1 Award in Wines exam consists of 30 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 45 minutes.

To pass you must correctly answer 70% of the questions. Successful students will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

This qualification is Ofqual regulated.

No prior wine knowledge is required, just enthusiasm! All our classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial.

What study options are available?

At WSET School London we have four study options available for this course.

Day course | £180

9.15am-5.00pm
This option allows you to complete the course in just one day, with the exam taking place in the final hour of the day.
There are inbuilt recapping and revision exercises throughout the course to help the information sink in.

This cost includes your study guide, wine samples, tuition, examination and the provision of service equipment during the course.
Your study materials will be issued at the start of the course.

Evening course | £180

6.30pm-8.30pm
You’ll study one evening per week for three weeks, with the examination taking place on the final evening.
A popular option for those who can't attend classes during the day and a great way to spread out the course. 

This cost includes your study guide, wine samples, tuition, examination and the provision of service equipment during the course. 
Your study materials will be issued at the start of the course.

Saturday course | £180

10.30am-2.00pm
The course is split up over two consecutive Saturdays, with the examination taking place at the end of the second Saturday. 
A popular option with those who want to explore London Bridge’s thriving food and drink scene after class - Borough Market is just a short walk away!

This cost includes your study guide, wine samples, tuition, examination and the provision of service equipment during the course. 
Your study materials will be issued at the start of the course.

Online course | £110

A four-week online study programme that works around your existing commitments.
You’ll learn through WSET’s Online Classroom, which allows you to study alongside your peers under the guidance of a dedicated educator.

A minimum of three hours study per week recommended to successfully complete the course. Regular access and participation is essential.
Tasting is a key part of studying for this course, and you will need to taste a minimum of six wines (not provided as part of the cost, but you will be given guidance on the styles to taste).
The cost includes access to our online classroom, online tuition and your examination. Wine samples are not included. Please note that the exam must be completed in person and not online.

Evening Courses

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
