WSET Level 2 Award in Spirits

This course is ideal for individuals who wish to deepen their understanding of spirits and liqueurs in an informative and structured manner.

Course information

This course covers the main categories of spirits and liqueurs as well as the influences of production methods on the different styles available in each category. Students will develop high level analytical tasting skills while also exploring the use of spirits in cocktails. The product knowledge gained on this course will be a significant advantage to those working with spirits in both the on- and off-trade.

Successful students will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin.

  • The characteristics of the main styles of spirits and liqueurs
  • How production methods affect style and quality
  • The major global spirits brands
  • Tutored tastings of around 40 spirits and liqueurs
  • How to taste and describe spirits using the WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Spirits® (SAT)

The exam takes place in the last session of the course. The exam consists of 50 multiple choice questions to be completed in one hour. To pass you must correctly answer 55% of the questions.

This qualification is Ofqual regulated.

No prior knowledge is required. All classes are delivered in English therefore a good level of English is beneficial.

Students completely new to spirits study may wish to complete the Level 1 Award in Spirits first. However, this is not essential.

You will be expected to read the provided text book prior to commencing the course.

What study options are available?

At WSET School London we deliver this course as an intensive classroom course taking place over 2 consecutive teaching days, with the examination taking place at the end of the 2nd day. 

You should be prepared to dedicate a minimum of 16 hours to study time outside of the classroom. Students are advised to select the study option that best suits their own timetable, factoring in both attendance and self-study requirements. Please be mindful that the consecutive day course is intensive.
